Job Description


We are seeking an exceptional, highly motivated and team-oriented Research Scientist to join the Jackson Lab in the Baxter Laboratory for Stem Cell Biology, in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Stanford University School of Medicine. The successful candidate will work with a multidisciplinary and dynamic research team on aging and regenerative medicine.  

We are seeking a PhD level scientist to participate in experiments related to lung alveolar stem cells responding to normal or cancer proliferation signaling for a 1 year fixed term, possibility for renewal.  A PhD in molecular biology coupled to experience in mouse models of cancer and experience in histology and biomarker analysis of tumor tissue (human and mouse) is important.  Knowledge of cancer signaling pathways is an important criterion, but area knowledge in other signaling pathways including immune or inflammatory signaling would a plus.  Experience should be substantiated by substantial publications in the area of Cancer Biology.  Experience with tissue culture models, gene expression analysis, and protein profiling is essential.  This position will be coded as a Sr. scientist in the lab and may involve some coordination or management of technical staff.


The position requires a highly self-motivated, accomplished individual with an outstanding track-record of innovation and success in both graduate school and postdoctoral research with a sustained publication record. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated history of success in establishing and performing collaborative research with excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to take initiative, provide strategic input, problem solve and work in teams.


Qualifications:
A PhD or MD/PhD degree with at least 5 years of relevant postdoctoral research experience in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, in academia and/or industry, is required. Further training beyond the postdoctoral training is desirable. The successful candidate must be technically rigorous, possess exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail and have a track-record of excellence, innovation, and productivity in research. Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills are imperative. The successful candidate must be able to work both independently and collaboratively and will have a key role in the training of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research assistants.

The expected pay range for this position is $104,000 to $136,000 per annum. Stanford University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years since their applicable education, field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal equity; among other factors.
