Summary

Provide a variety of support services to patients and medical/clinical/clerical staff in a fast paced customer friendly environment.

Responsibilities*

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide direct patient care or miscellaneous technical support by performing delegated procedures of a specialized and technical nature under the supervision of a registered nurse and within the guidelines of unit policy.
  • Review electronic physician orders and assist with completion of orders under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Perform clerical duties assosiated with patient care.
  • Responsible for setting up, stocking and cleaning Pre-op/PACU/Phase II work areas.
  • Assist with transporting patients under direction of charge or staff nurse.
  • Setting up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment and performing delegated clinical or laboratory procedures, changing dressings, assisting with preop check-in and discharge procedures

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma, GED or equivalent.  Employee must also have one of the following:

  •  Completion of a certified nurse or medical assistant program.  (Certification preferred). 
  •  (or) Junior status in an accredited BSN program
  •  (or) 2nd year in accredited ADN program
  •  (or) Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Medical Science; 
  •  (or) a 1-year recent experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting, such as patient care tech in a hospital setting 
  •  (or) a minimum 2-years’ experience in such a role in a nursing home or other health care environment
  •  Ability to read and write. 

Desired Qualifications*

  • Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Basic computer skills
  • course work in an Allied Health field

Work Schedule

  • 36 hour position; Three 12-hour shifts Day/Eve rotation; 8:00am-8:30pm 
  • *Position includes weekend rotation, which will be on the day shift

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
