Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Cancer Registry Information Specialist (Education Coordinator) in Cancer Registry Operations within Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Supervising Cancer Registry Information Specialist (Education Coordinator) will lead and coordinate internal and external training and education activities at the New Jersey State Cancer Registry; supervise all cancer data collection, quality control and medical data correction activities; and, set priorities, deadlines and schedules, in accordance with overall Cancer Registry program goals.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Supervises and coordinates all activities related to education conducted by the Registry.
  • Supervises staff responsible for implementing educational activities. 
  • Directs staff responsible for collecting and preparing cancer data for analysis. 
  • Develops and implements educational training programs for cancer registrars and various personnel responsible for data collection activities according to the requirements of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program, and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
  • Provides in-depth training in data collection, abstracting, coding and use of various data collection tools according to the requirements of CDC/NPCR, NCR/SEER, and NAACCR
  • Prepares grant applications, procedures manuals, various reports, and correspondence with an in-depth understanding of clinical oncology.
  • Supervises staff involved in activities associated with medical data corrections related to demographic and medical information including primary site and histology, staging extent of tumor invasion and proper correction of diagnostic and cancer treatment information. Directs staff responsible for the timely, completion and quality collection of cancer data by New Jersey Health Care facilities. 
  • Coordinates the electronic submission of medical cancer information both statewide and out-of-state.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree (formal education or training in education preferred) plus four (4) years of experience as a tumor registrar in a central cancer registry, hospital, or other health care facility which shall have included the responsibility for abstracting cancer cases, quality control conducting public health surveys or patient care studies and evaluations, two (2) years of which shall have been in a lead and/or supervisory capacity and have included developing and implementing education and training programs.
  • Equivalent education, experience and/or training may be substituted for the degree requirement.
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must possess valid Certified Tumor Registrar certification issued by the National Cancer Registrar’s Association.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.

Immunization Requirements
