Antibiotic resistance is a global public health crisis. The outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria acts as impervious barrier to toxic molecules and antibiotics, resulting in difficult to treat infections. The Silhavy lab aims to understand the biogenesis of the outer membrane using genetics, biochemistry, and molecular biology.

 

The lab seeks a full-time Research Specialist I/II to assist with research and daily operation. The specialist will work closely with postdoctoral fellows and graduate students to design and execute cutting edge experiments. 



  • Performs PCR, western blotting, gel electrophoresis, and molecular cloning.
  • Develops and implements new lab protocols. Troubleshoots technical protocols.
  • Intellectual contribution by reading and keeping up with literature.
  • Assists with laboratory organization, shipping, ordering, and receiving.


Essential qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

- 1 year of molecular biology laboratory experience.
- Must be detail oriented, highly motivated, and dedicated.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills.

 

Preferred qualifications:
-Prior experience with sterile technique, PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning and western blotting.
-Experience working with E. coli or other bacteria.
-Bachelor's degree in molecular biology or related field.
