Title Postdoctoral Fellow in Medicine - Infectious Disease
Specific Title
Appointment Type Postdoctoral Fellow
Department IUSM - Medicine - Infectious Disease
Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis
Position Summary
The Aronoff Lab at Indiana University of Medicine has a one-to-two-year postdoctoral research fellow position available for a project related to characterizing host-microbial interactions and innate immunity at the fetal-maternal interface, involved in the pathogenesis of Group B Streptococcus (GBS). This position will primarily involve working with human cells and tissues, specifically human placental tissues, and bacterial pathogens (BSL-2).
Under minimal supervision, the postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to apply strong organizational and interpersonal skills to lead an independent research project related to the above-mentioned theme in the Aronoff Lab. More specifically, to plan and coordinate highly detailed in vitro experiments using bacteria, human placental macrophages and gestational membranes. The candidate will be expected to organize and plan all aspects of experimentation and collaborate with core facilities to complete downstream assays such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, and scRNA sequencing and analysis. Other downstream applications such as microscopy, cytokine analysis, qRT-PCR, Western blot, and immunofluorescence can be done within our laboratory. Candidates will be expected to isolate single cells from both placenta and gestational membranes for use in experiments throughout the lab, as well as work with intact membranes in trans-well experiments. The candidate will collect, interpret, assess, and communicate data and results to team leaders and present data at lab meetings.
