Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Specialist for the Office of Information Technology’s Old Queens Technical Support Team. This position reports to the Associate Director of Information Technology. This position primarily supports the President, their Vice Presidents, University General Counsel, University Ethics and Compliance, Office of Academic Labor Relations, and 11 other departments that are part of the executive branch of the University. This position will also provide executive-level technical support services for office, mobile, and at-home equipment as well as support for the remote office locations in Newark, Trenton, and Washington DC to also include technical support for the governing boards and their associated committees. The Unit Computing Specialist will at times have to deal with matters of a confidential nature when conducting end-user support.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Provides computer, LAN client, application software and utilities technical support, and assistance to the Old Queens Quad user community.
  • Provides high-quality end-user support.
  • Responds to user inquiries, problem reports, and consulting service requests in a timely and courteous manner with most responses occurring within 1-3 hours of the initial request.
  • Provides accurate and appropriate technical recommendations and specifications and provides ordering information to management where appropriate.
  • Provides support, and technical direction to entry-level support technicians.
  • On an annual basis, provides setup, installation, and replacement of computers as part of the Old Queens Quad “Total Cost of Ownership” technology plan.
  • Provides sound technical recommendations for new systems accessories.
  • Creates system images for easy recreation of systems configurations in the future.
  • Provides documentation for the system configuration and specifications.
  • Install new systems in a timely manner.
  • With a minimum of down-time, transfers local data to newly installed systems.
  • Meets or exceeds planned time frames.
  • Responsible for all hardware inventory tracking as well as all equipment sign outs.

Minimum Education and Experience
Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver’s license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrates knowledge of desktop software and operating systems currently in use with a combination of two years of education and/or experience.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, problem-solving skills, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrates proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), learning management systems, video/calls/conferencing and email applications.
  • Knowledgeable with Operating Systems and University applications to conduct first level desktop support: Duo, Webex, Zoom, MAC OS and iOS.

Immunization Requirements
