The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has as its mission the accumulation, generation, and dissemination of knowledge in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Central to the mission is a high-quality research and educational program that benefits our students, the State of North Carolina, the nation, and the world. The Department acts as a focal point for development, growth, and entrepreneurship. The national and international reputation of the Department facilitates future growth in areas of fundamental economic importance to the State.

The Education Industry Coordinator (EIC) will be part of the FREEDM Education team, supervised by the College Education Director. The FREEDM System Center has facilitated the development and enhancement of education programs at NC State University focusing on Electric Power Engineering. These programs provide students with the proper set of engineering skills needed for the emerging Smart Grid. At the graduate level, the Center has developed MS-EPSE (Electric Power Systems Engineering) program as a flagship degree program through the ECE Department. MS-EPSE is an innovative accelerated professional master’s degree that prepares engineers for a career in the electric utility industry. FREEDM System Center has also a portfolio program that enhances the education of a large group of Master’s and Ph.D. students who participate in the Center’s research activities.

Essential Job Duties

The EIC’s position’s main responsibility will involve all the activities needed to establish a strong relationship between the FREEDM Center including graduate education programs and the industry.

The main activities EIC will lead are the following:
(i) Lead the efforts towards promoting the graduate programs, especially MS-EPSE, to the industry to attract working professionals to our programs;
(ii) Lead the efforts on student recruiting and program marketing;
(iii) Reach out to the power industry in order to provide opportunities to the Center students so that the students can have rich industry exposure through programs such as industry internships, and capstone projects, and provide consultation to students on job opportunities;
(iv) Provide support to the Industry Liaison Officer for FREEDM marketing plan implementation.

Minimum Experience/Education

Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
 
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with graduate students, faculty, and staff.
  • Understanding and relevant experience in engineering education.
  • Experience working with electric utility and other related stakeholders.
  • Practical experience in marketing and recruiting.
  • Must have project management skills.
  • Experience with budget and technical writing skills.
  • Must have knowledge of program assessment.
  • Knowledge of higher education administrative systems and general policies.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer focus.
  • Outstanding organization, time management, and professional judgment.
  • Ability to work well independently and with interdisciplinary teams.

At least one (1) year of professional experience at an educational institution or a company.
