Full Job Description

This is a full-time, seasonal position located at Camp Ravencliff, a residential camp located in Redway, CA.
Pay Rate: $715-$770/week

POSITION SUMMARY:*
Under direction of the Ravencliff Cook, the Assistant Cook is responsible for supporting food service operations at Camp Ravencliff including meal preparation, meal service and clean-up at Camp Ravencliff for 3 meals a day. Additional duties may include camp program support which involves general counselor support, teaching activities, basic camp operations, and other duties as assigned by the Camp Cook or Camp Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Under the direction of the cook, assist with preparation of camp meals
  • Ensure sanitation procedures, health department regulations and YMCA program standards are followed as instructed
  • Assist with maintaining all kitchen, food service equipment and food preparation appliances in a sanitary and operational manner.
  • Assist with service of 3 meals per day for everyone at camp
  • Assist with clean-up of kitchen as directed
  • Assist Camp Cook with maintaining records and receipts as well as inventory.
  • Drive YMCA provided vehicle to town twice/week to pick up order which includes loading order on YMCA truck and stocking order in kitchen
  • Attend training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled
  • Help provide for health and safety of children and staff, know emergency and camp procedures.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed.
  • Treat all participants with dignity and respect. Follow discipline procedures outlined in the Y Code of Conduct.
  • Be willing to be flexible, understanding, and sensitive to the needs of people and promote positive relationship between children and staff.
  • Engage in behavior that is conducive to team building; using open communication, encouragement, support and tolerance with fellow staff members.
  • Other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum High School graduate or equivalent plus minimum two (2) years’ experience in the food service field with basic understanding of nutrition.
  • Ability to work as a team member with a strong commitment to collaborative work.
  • Ability to fulfill physical requirements of job (lifting, pushing, moving, etc.) as needed to successfully perform job responsibilities.
  • Must have demonstrated skills in menu planning, sanitary food preparation techniques and knowledge of proper food storage regulations.
  • Must have math skills sufficient to calculate proper meal serving quantities.
  • Ability to relate sensitively to children and camp staff.
  • Ability to relate to one’s peers effectively.
  • Ability to make critical decisions without direct supervision when necessary.
  • Character values in line with the YMCA core values.
  • Flexibility and maturity, with ability to accept supervision.
  • Fingerprint clearance from both Department of Justice (DOJ) & FBI, which includes sex offender screening.
  • Will be required to complete Sexual Harassment Training & Child Abuse Awareness Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Preferred: ServSafe certified
  • Starting Oct 1, 2021, any new hires will be required to show proof of full vaccination prior to employment or if applicable, request a medical or religious exemption.
