Description
The School of Renewable Natural Resources has openings for 2 post-doctoral research associates working on multi-year projects to better understand the demographics of Eastern and Rio Grande wild turkeys. The focus of both positions will be on evaluating demographic response of wild turkeys relative to individual behavioral decisions as well as local and landscape scale variation in environmental conditions. Both positions will have considerable flexibility in topics of interest and day to day focus, and both candidates must show willingness to conduct collaborative research with faculty, post-docs and graduate students as they will be integrated into a suite of researchers focusing on Eastern and Rio Grande wild turkeys wild turkeys in the United States. Responsibilities: Both positions will support research collaborations involving scientists across several Universities (University of Georgia, Tennessee Technological University, Texas A&M University), federal and state wildlife agencies. The post-doctoral researcher’s primary role will be coordination of data analysis and manuscript development from a variety of field studies using GPS data from both Rio Grande and Eastern wild turkeys to evaluate behavioral and movement ecology, disease ecology, genetic relationships, habitat utilization and resultant demographic responses. Additional opportunities will exist for development and implementation of collaborative or independent projects under the broader program umbrella.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology or closely related discipline. Preferred Qualifications: - Ph.D. in Wildlife Ecology, Ecology, or closely related discipline. -Evidence of quantitative skills and programming experience (R/Python/JAGS/Stan) -Significant, proven experience working with geospatial data, remote sensing experience would provided considerable added value -Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and ability to work effectively across multiple organizations Preference will be given to candidates interested in developing quantitative skills, who have experience in GIS, and interest in upland wildlife population dynamics. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated familiarity with analysis of spatially-explicit data and experience with remote sensing and GIS technology.
