Location: Remote, USA


Hiring Range: This position is anticipated to pay $62,000 - $65,000 annually.


Position Summary: The Foundation Partnerships Specialist will work with, and under the supervision of the Manager, Foundation Partnerships to help the team achieve an annual team revenue goal. This position will be instrumental in establishing, implementing, and promoting the goals of Best Friends Animal Society, securing grant funds, creating strong and solid relationships with foundation partners, and promoting the overall goals of Best Friends.


Primary responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of foundation grant giving and management, including writing grant proposals and reports, prospect research, relationship cultivation, proposal development and submission, grant tracking, stewardship and reporting activities to foundations, and other grant-making organizations. Must be able to persuasively communicate Best Friends Animal Society’s mission and programs to potential funders.


Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Help secure the Foundation Partnerships team’s multi-million revenue goal, annually.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of foundation partners by executing on the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of existing and new high-capacity foundation partners.
  • Prepare letters of inquiry, formal proposals, program budgets, logic models, presentations, and grant reports for foundations.
  • Maintain up-to-date CRM reports and project tracking log(s).
  • Work with program managers and the finance office to ensure restricted grants are properly spent and to prepare expenditure reports for foundation partners.
  • Ensure Manager is briefed on all aspects of team progress, needs, issues, and successes.
  • Collaborate with organization and program leadership to identify funding needs, compile documents and budgets for grant requests, and organize in-person meetings as needed with foundation prospects that lead to more engaged partnerships.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing and relationship development with foundations or related experience in a business or sales role is required.
  • Preference given to those with 5 years of demonstrated success in non-profit fundraising and cultivation of foundations.
  • Must possess superior written skills including the ability to edit for quality, congruity, and style.
  • Must be comfortable communicating directly to funders and making cold calls to new prospects.
  • Must have excellent attention to detail and the ability to complete projects quickly.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with completing deadlines.
  • Must have the ability to assimilate information about programs from a variety of sources to make documents persuasive to potential funders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Computer skills and knowledge of fundraising computer programs.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to read, understand, and create program budgets.
  • Have the ability to professionally and effectively communicate Best Friends’ mission, vision, and programmatic scope.


Physical Requirements:

  • Work for an extended period at a computer with repetitive typing, arm, and hand motion.
  • Ability to travel to meet with prospects and donors and attend meetings both at the Sanctuary in Utah and on the East Coast as required (up to 25% travel time).
  • Travel via various forms of public transportation on behalf of organization business.
