Full Job Description

The Program Director of Community Engagement will lead the planning and execution of engagement and outreach actions and activities with academic, community and faith-based member organizations, health care providers, and small minority businesses across the state of Tennessee and in each of its four major regions. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team of the Institute on Health Disparities, Equity and the Exposome. This role will work closely with the Institute and Center Directors and other Core Directors to develop a plan to expand and more effectively engage our partners in public health planning, education, outreach, and research.

 

Daily Operations

  • Collaboratively develop a comprehensive strategic plan to grow and strengthen relationships with academic and community partners.
  • Coordinate with local governments to ensure that programs and activities align with local policies.
  • Design and implement programs that raise awareness of public health issues
  • Develop partnerships with academic, non-profit and faith-based organizations, health care providers, small businesses to support public health initiatives in all four regions of the state.
  • Develop and implement community outreach programs that promote awareness of public health issues or concerns.
  • Oversee purchase and management of equipment and supplies needed to support community events.
  • Organize and coordinate local and statewide events and activities such as health fairs, public health education events, and community engagement in research.
  • Coordinate with local businesses and community organizations to conduct activities that promote health and wellness
  • Plan, develop, execute, and evaluate impact of community engagement strategies.
  • Organize online events to drive community engagement
  • Recruit, mentor and evaluate Community Engagement team member
  • Collaborate with the project management team to track impact.
  • Analyze data to inform actionable insights
 
Required Skills
 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, the Google Suite.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, prioritize duties and work closely with other programs/projects.
  • Be well organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously with a problem-solving approach.
  • Experience working effectively with clients from diverse background, with sensitivity to people from diverse communities.
  • Literacy and experience with computer office programs (MS Work, MS Excel, MS Outlook)
  • Excellent written, verbal and telephone skills
 
Required Experience
 
  • Master’s degree in public health, social work, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in community organizing, development in an academic or non-profit organization.
  • A strong communicator able to interface with a variety of audiences, both external and internal.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and the credibility and poise to present to a wide range of community partners.
  • Knowledge of AP style.
  • Proven success at developing and implementing digital marketing and social media strategies to enhance engagement and visibility.
  • Extensive experience developing, implementing and analyzing both traditional and social media metrics.
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and results.
  • Experience building, leading and mentoring a team of marketing and communications specialists.
  • Superior management skills, including the ability to advocate for and manage to budget priorities.
  • Presence and confidence to project credibility to staff, senior leaders, media, and community partners.
  • Self-reliant, problem solver and results oriented.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook) with solid understanding of key marketing and communication tools (e.g. Web Content Management Systems, email systems, Google Analytics and other web metrics, Adobe Creative Suite, among others).
