Job Summary

Drexel’s Physics Education Research Network [D-PERN] and Professor Eric Brewe are hiring a post-doctoral scholar to perform advanced social network analysis on four types of active learning environments within physics along with making and analyzing structured observations for recorded classroom interactions. Project data management will also be a significant part of the role. Candidates should have a PhD or have completed all but dissertation (ABD) in Physics.

This position would best fit a strong quantitative researcher with experience/expertise in the R statistical analysis environment, prior experience/expertise with social network analysis, and experience/expertise in data management.

The position is open until filled with a start date that is negotiable, but is nominally July, 2023. We will consider remote work but in-person at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA is strongly preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Present at national/international conferences and publication of scientific results in peer-reviewed journals as lead author.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently.
  • Keep, manage, and organize large amounts of data.
  • Perform and have knowledge of common network analysis techniques.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in Physics, Sociology, Education, or a closely related field.
  • PhD or All but dissertation (ABD) in physics or physical science, science education, learning sciences, or related field, or foreign equivalent, by time of appointment is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in R programming
  • Experience working with, managing, and organizing large datasets

Applicants must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. This appointment is offered for 18 months starting July 1st  and will pay $60,000 a year.
