Summary

This position is for a clinical social worker in the Adult Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program at Michigan Medicine. Responsibilities include conducting psychosocial assessments, providing individual and family therapy and case management. This position will also have a strong emphasis on facilitating process group therapy as well as conducting DBT/CBT and other psychoeducational groups. You will work closely within an interdisciplinary team within a 40 hour a week, Monday-Friday schedule.

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  • Participating in multi-disciplinary team meetings several times per week.
  • Facilitating process group therapy, educational groups, and DBT/CBT groups
  • Conducting psychosocial assessments
  • Providing individual therapy and family interventions/psychoeducation
  • Case management and discharge planning for patients completing PHP
  • Ability to complete safety assessments and triage as appropriate
  • Obtaining insurance authorizations and potential assistance with continuing stay reviews
  • Making referrals to community agencies
  • Keeping up-to date records in mi-chart and providing statistical information required by social work department.  Completing m-learning activities and all other required departmental requirements.

Required Qualifications*

  • A Master's degree in Social Work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Previous experience within acute care settings such as and inpatient psychiatry unit or a Psychiatric Partial Hospitalization Program.
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective case dispositions.
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Experience with evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, PST, ACT, DBT) and familiarity with brief, structured interventions (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation) along with a basic knowledge of psychopharmacology.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer

Work Schedule

This is full time, 40 hour/week position. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday with start and end times 8:00-4:30.

This position will work out of University of Michigan Hospital, 9D, 1500 E. Medical Center Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48109

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.  Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
