ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE AND INTERFACES

Reports To: Director of Workforce Development

Primary Interfaces: Workforce Development Coordinator, College Bound Advisors,
Senior Specialists, Chief Operations Officer, Director of Teen Empowerment, Director of Corporate Relations, community partners, and constituents

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $17.00-$19.00/hour

Hours per week: 20-25 hours

MUST BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE AND PROVIDE AN OPEN/CONSISTENT
SCHEDULE. MUST BE WILLING TO DRIVE. JOB REQUIRES TRANSPORTATION
BETWEEN THE MAIN CLUB AND PARTNERING SCHOOLS. SOME DUTIES WILL
BE CONDUCTED OFF-SITE.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Career Specialist position is a part-time position reporting to the Director of
Workforce Development for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast. The position will serve as a key staff member for the Teen Strategy with the responsibility for implementing the delivery of the Workforce Development program in the Teen
Center and partnering schools.

The Career Specialist will work in concert with the Director of Workforce Development, Workforce Development Coordinator, school site Teen Coordinators, College Bound Academic Advisors, Teen Enrichments Specialists, and Senior Specialists to coordinate effective and consistent collaboration with students, parents, staff, volunteers and local high school counselors/personnel to ensure the quality of the Workforce Development program. This individual will help facilitate various group activities which meet the Workforce Development Program and site objectives of delivering high-quality post-secondary opportunities in a passionate and compelling manner. The Career Specialist will work in concert with school-based teen coordinators to provide career pathway programming at various levels of engagement. Success will be measured by the achievement level of students in the Workforce Development Program, the number and quality of program offerings implemented, the number of members engaged with the program, and the quality of collaboration with families, staff, and local school personnel.

KEY ROLES

Commitment to Safety
1. Contribute to an environment of safety through the learning and implementation and monitoring of all safety-related best practices, policies, and procedures.

2. Promote accountability to safety through consistent observation, adherence to all safety rules and practices, and proactive communication among members, parents, peers, and leadership.

3. Obtain and maintain Mandated Reporter training and complete annual Child Abuse Prevention training.

4. Complete training and participate in all Emergency Preparedness protocols including drills and communication practices.

Strategic Planning
1. Communicate the goals of the comprehensive Workforce Development Program to members, parents, and school officials.

2. Develop program plans for career pathway offerings.

3. Design the best structure possible to meet members’ year-end impact objectives.

4. Develop systems to ensure constant member evaluation to be completed to review the potential for impact, member motivation, parent participation, and other important criteria.

5. Use reliable and frequent measures of student engagement including surveys, workshop participation rates, and the number of externships and internships completed.

6. Maintain and develop comprehensive records and reports to track engagement.

7. Collaborate regularly with teen coordinators and College Bound advisors in order to assist in developing and meeting academic, career, and personal goals for members.

8. Provide career and workforce opportunity guidance and exploration activities to teens as needed.

Leadership
1. Regularly coordinate with the site’s educational programs to ensure maximum member impact.
2. Collaborate with the Workforce Development Coordinator to ensure smooth and quality corporate partner experience.

Partnership Development

1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with teens engaged in Workforce Development programs.

2. Work collaboratively with the Director of College & Workforce Development,
Workforce Development Coordinator, Academic Advisors, and partners connected to the Workforce Development Program.

3. Seek out enrichment and post-secondary opportunities for the students including programs, scholarships, extension classes, internships, employment, and community service opportunities.

4. Regularly communicate with local school counselors, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to ensure that students are receiving the support they need to be successful after high school.

5. When necessary, make appropriate referrals for members to enroll in the College
Bound program.

Outreach
1. Support school-based teen coordinators with the Workforce Development program with recruitment efforts by presenting to students, teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents the benefits of participation in BGC Central OC program opportunities.

2. Coordinate recruitment efforts with the Workforce Development Coordinator.

3. Contact and coordinate guest speakers to share information with members about careers, college experience, and post-secondary opportunities.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in the coordination of special projects to increase college awareness among members including arranging guest speakers, college visits, workshops, and guidance units.

2. Assist in the recruitment and training of new Workforce Development Advisors and volunteers who will work with the Workforce Development Program.

3. Support important program activities like parent events, training, and fundraisers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is preferred but not required.

? Experience working in career-related programming specifically catered to teens or college students (Preferred)

? Knowledge of high school, college, and community resources and opportunities related to workforce development.

? Strong interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to community and members from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds.

? Knowledge of California high school graduation requirements, A-G requirements, and other college/vocational school entry requirements.

? Ability to utilize a wide variety of references, descriptive data, and information.

? Ability to work independently and in an undefined environment.

? Ability to motivate, organize and supervise youth in a safe environment and manage behavior problems.

? Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications.

? Must be able to work a flexible schedule.

? Strong interest in education and impacting member learning in a positive manner.

? Excellent planning and organizational skills.

? Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

? Proficiency in office-based computer programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Publisher).
