The Opportunity:

The Communications Specialist I is primarily responsible for writing, editing, formatting, and disseminating information about graduate education and the College of Graduate Studies programs, events, and services through print, digital, web, and social media. The internal title for this position is Communications Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Overall news and announcements for and about the college, including profiling of graduate students, faculty, and postdoctoral scholars.  Write, format, and coordinate publication of materials, i.e. news articles and announcements, recruiting materials, web content, and event materials using the Associated Press Stylebook.

  • Social media strategies to include conceptualizing, implementation, execution, and management.  Prepare content and publish to College of Graduate Studies accounts including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, and YouTube.

  • Assist management of the College of Graduate Studies website, including content management and training. Conducting interviews and online research, organizing information from reports and databases.  Responsible for maintaining marketing, communications, and social media calendars.

  • Assist with the trafficking and production of marketing and event materials including, fliers, brochures, forms, annual reports, PowerPoints, and videos.  Some photography involved.

  • Attend and support college events, Student Research Week, Orientation, Grad Fair assisting with photography and videography when needed.

  • Other projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Basic Word Press experience.

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment with deadlines across many areas of operations.

  • Strong attention to detail and organization.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, co-workers in other departments, and students.

  • Ability to work well independently and value a team approach 

  • Experience in higher education.
