Position Highlights A postdoctoral position is available to teach gross anatomy under the supervision of Dr. Rebecca Fisher in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. The successful applicant will fill one of three anatomy postdoctoral positions, forming a cohort of postdocs who are dedicated to developing their teaching skills. The successful applicant will also pursue their own research interests and/or collaborate on research projects with current faculty. Current faculty research areas in the department include: phylogenetics and mammalian paleontology? human and primate skeletal anatomy? paleoanthropology; bioarchaeology and paleopathology? and vertebrate and invertebrate functional anatomy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • Teach gross anatomy to medical, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and graduate students, including laboratory instruction, workshops, select lectures, and office hours.
  • Complete competency evaluations for medical, allied health, and graduate students.
  • Provide review sessions in the anatomy laboratory prior to exams.
  • Assist the anatomy faculty in writing and revising exam questions, setting up and proctoring practical exams, and mentoring the anatomy teaching assistants.
  • Teach in the summer remediation anatomy course for medical students.
  • Teach anatomy to students in pipeline and community outreach programs.
  • Participate in continuing medical education courses in the anatomy laboratory.
  • Contribute to additional educational needs of the department and college.

Research:

  • Conduct research under the mentorship of the anatomy faculty. 
  • Submit research for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Present findings at departmental seminars and professional meetings.

Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Anatomy, Biological Anthropology, Vertebrate Paleontology, or related field of study.
  • Prior human anatomy teaching experience in a dissection-based course. 
Preferred Qualifications

• Research interests in phylogenetics and mammalian paleontology; human and primate skeletal anatomy; paleoanthropology; bioarchaeology and paleopathology; or vertebrate/invertebrate functional anatomy.
