Job Summary

Reporting to the Children’s Center Director, the Children’s Center Master Teacher is responsible for providing a developmentally appropriate educational environment as well as supervising, guiding, observing and evaluating the progress of Child Development students.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Plans and implements age-appropriate activities for children under care; including children who have been identified as having special needs.
  • Observes teachers in classroom or other teaching settings to assess relevant skills and recommends methods and strategies appropriate to the achievement of goals.
  • Supervises and mentors lab students, visiting college students, and part-time employees in the classroom ensuring consistent implementation of educational goals.
  • Models expert teaching practices and provides feedback for improving teaching and enhancing parent and student relationships.
  • Meets with specialists to create plans for children and include recommendations for lesson plans.
  • Attends meetings that impact child progress, including IEP’s
  • Maintains the staff yearly required training hours logs and personnel files
  • Maintains an on-going classroom portfolio based on National Association for the Education of Young Children’s accreditation standards
  • Participates in the development and presentation of in-service educational programs pertaining to the Center; provides feedback and focused educational programs as appropriate.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • Maintains current certification in Food Handling and Pediatric CPR/First Aid

General Supervision and Management
  • Supervises lab students in the classroom through evaluation and usage of lesson plans and upgrading of skills and knowledge of early childhood development.

Service Excellence
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of Children’s Center Director

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • If not currently certified, complete Food Handlers and Pediatric CPR/First Aid within 60 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field
  • Pediatric CPR & First Aid Certification

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques
  • Knowledge of mentoring and leading adults
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Knowledge of applicable safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of child development theory and practice.
  • Skilled in coaching and mentoring
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Ability to provide activities for children that encourage healthy growth and provide technical staff development and performance feedback.
  • Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart confidential information
  • Ability to evaluate, design, and implement curriculum, and teaching methodologies appropriate to children 2 through five years old.
