The Department of Computer Science (CS) at University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) invites applications for a post-doctoral associate position in the area of Communication-Denied Network Games.

Who We Are:

The College of Engineering and Applied Science (EAS) at UCCS is nationally ranked and offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. levels. The CS department has 22 full-time faculty including three NSF CAREER winners and one AFOSR YIP winner.

Job Duties:

Specifically, the post-doctoral associate will support the following research tasks: (1) develop graph-theoretic analytics to characterize how connectivity among agents influences emergent performance in multiagent optimization problems; (2) design algorithms to robustly mitigate the harm of unplanned communication/observation breakdown among agents in a multiagent optimization problem.

Job Competencies:

A successful applicant will possess strong abilities/skills in the following areas.

  • A strong foundation in game theory and multiagent system optimization concepts.
  • A strong theoretical foundation in stochastic processes, including any of randomized algorithms, Markov chains, control of MDPs, and/or Reinforcement Learning.
  • A research background in any of control theory, design and analysis of algorithms, operations research, and/or related fields.
  • Strong communication skills, including verbal and writing skills, are desired.
  • Independent problem solving, specifically the ability to efficiently navigate an unfamiliar problem space with minimal supervision, the ability to seek and integrate useful help and feedback, and the ability to incrementally chip away a hard problem.

Work Location: On-site

This position has been determined to be exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

What We Offer:

Salary Range: Generally starting at $65,000 per year

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs offers excellent benefits , some of which include:

  • Generous paid vacation and sick time accruals (14.67 hours of vacation and 10 hours of sick accrued per month, prorated if part-time)
  • Mandatory retirement plans. Employees contribute 5% of their annual compensation. CU doubles that and contributes 10%

  • Paid Parental Leave after 12 months of employment

This position is dependent on the availability of external grant funding. Funding is currently expected to last one year.

Tentative Search Timeline:

  • Priority will be given to applications submitted by April 19, 2023. However, this posting will remain open until filled.
  • The potential dates for interviews with the search committee will be the week of May 1, 2023.
  • The potential employee start date is July 15, 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in computer science, electrical or computer engineering or related discipline
  • Research experience and track record of publications in one or more of the following areas: control theory, game theory, or stochastic processes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A track record of successful research mentoring

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to move. Employee is occasionally required to have long periods of sitting, moderate bending, moderate energy requirements, and fine motor skills. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
