Part-time Faculty Dental Assisting Instructors

Job Description

Lakeland Community College is seeking a Dental Assisting adjunct instructor to teach various courses.

DAST 1150, Infection Control, during summer session 1, May 22 – June 27, Monday, and Tuesday afternoons.

This course will emphasize the importance of infection control in dentistry. Standard precautions will be reviewed and practiced using national standards and protocols.

DAST 1200, Radiography, during summer session II, June 28 – August 3, on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

This course will focus on the principles and history of radiography, physics of radiation, infection control, and radiation safety. The mounting of radiographs and darkroom procedures are also covered in this course. The students will be exposed to intraoral and extraoral radiographs on manikins.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides instruction of lectures and demonstrates chairside practice.
  • Guides students through specialties practice.
  • Performs evaluation of student techniques for grades and competency.
  • Exhibits patience and a positive attitude to establish an encouraging learning environment.
  • Assists with the maintenance and cleanliness of the dental clinic and classroom.
  • Responsible for set up of the specialties and procedures in the hygiene clinic.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of chairside concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose and facilitate minor equipment repairs.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with and respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse student population.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Current Ohio dental hygiene license and registered dental hygienist required.
  • Dental hygienist with dental assisting background is preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree or working on a bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous teaching experience is a plus.
  • Dental assisting certification is a plus.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:

Teaching responsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment with the employee intermittently sitting at chairside, taking radiographs, instrument transfer of specialty instruments, and specialty procedures.
