The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Faculty Coordinator, BIPOC/Multicultural Student Resource Center, Foothill College.

The Foothill - De Anza Community College District does not have a remote work policy.  All employees are expected to be available to work in person and on-site per the requirement of the department.

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Dean of Student Affairs and Activities at Foothill College, the Faculty Coordinator of the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color)/Multicultural Student Resource Center provides a full range of in-person referral services, and is responsible for providing culturally relevant outreach and community engagement programming including professional development, trainings, and workshops for the following student populations:

  • Communities of color, particularly Black, African, African-American, and the greater African diaspora communities
  • LatinX communities
  • Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, Pacific Islander, Southeast Asian, (BIPOC) communities including queer and trans communities of color
  • LGBTQ+
  • DACAmented/Undocumented communities
  • First-generation college students
  • Cultural/Race-Based Collective Trauma

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Instruction and Training Duties and Responsibilities (approximately 20% annually)

  1. Operating from a strong equity lens, the Faculty Coordinator of BIPOC/Multicultural Student Resource Center will conduct referral intakes, conduct workshops, provide general counsel to enrolled and prospective students at Foothill College, and coordinate the BIPOC/Multicultural Center with the goal of creating a sense of belonging for BIPOC communities.
  2. Provide in-service to faculty, staff, and administrators regarding student needs within BIPOC communities of color including, but not limited to, creating a sense of belonging, effective outreach and programming, and culturally relevant approaches to basic needs and wellness services.
  3. Further the college’s Strategic Equity Plan to global, cultural, and social awareness through the praxis of equity, social justice, and multicultural education.
  4. Teach counseling courses as part of workload and/or provide workshops to students, staff, faculty, and administrators, and perform standard duties expected of all faculty, which include development and evaluation of curricula, maintaining scheduled office hours, attending department and division meetings, pursuing professional growth activities, and performing other duties consistent with the role of a faculty member. Faculty can also serve on District and college committees and participate in co-curricular activities.

Non-Instruction Duties and Responsibilities (approximately 80% annually)

  1. Support social justice, equity, and awareness in staffing, programs, and service delivery.
  2. Collaborate with Basic Needs and Wellness strategies and activities that foster student wellness and campus safety, such as outreach and prevention events to diverse student populations, such as students who identify as LGTBQ+, foster youth, veterans, and/or unhoused.
  3. Case management with emphasis on providing referrals to campus and community resources to secure student basic needs and to ensure continuity of student supports.
  4. Assist in the implementation of program plans and final reports for grant programs and services including UndocuAlly, Basic Needs and LGBTQ+ reporting.
  5. Participate in the BIPOC/Multicultural Center program review and Student Learning Outcome (SLO) development and evaluation process.
  6. Participate in the development of department goals, objectives, and assessment of resource needs.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues to develop informational materials such as brochures, newsletters, and handbooks.
  8. Be knowledgeable of legislation, codes, policies, and procedures related to the assigned program.
  9. Work in close collaboration with Equity Office and Counseling division to align efforts.
  10. Develop relationships with campus faculty, staff, student clubs and local community-based resources to implement equity-minded health and wellness education strategies to ensure seamless services offered to students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master’s Degree Counseling, Education, Student Services or related area or equivalent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possession of a Masters in Social Work (MSW) is strongly preferred.
  2. Recent professional counseling experience working with communities of color, particularly BIPOC students, and understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes.
  3. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the impact that discrimination, racial trauma, anti-blackness, anti-immigrant, imposter syndrome, stigma, cultural mistrust, and feelings of isolation has on the mental health and well-being of community college students from diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, disability, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds and identities.
  4. Experience addressing systemic barriers and access to healthcare, stigma reduction efforts via Outreach/Social Media/Peer ambassador related programs and activities with emphasis on Black, African-American, LatinX, BIPOC, DACAmented/Undocumented, LGBTQIA+ and Veteran populations and collective race-based trauma.
  5. Experience in assisting students with securing resources for mental health wellness, basic needs and referral to additional student support services areas including Admissions, Financial Aid, tutoring services, etc.
  6. Ability to demonstrate equity-minded crisis management and consultation skills.
  7. Ability to develop outreach and prevention services that promote psychological wellness.
  8. Ability to present workshops and in-service trainings.
  9. Ability to initiate innovative service delivery strategies.
  10. Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.

HIRING RANGE: $73,799.00 - $121,204.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant’s verified education and experience.
