Job Description:

Postdoctoral Associate needed to assist the principal investigator/researcher with research by reporting on results at weekly group meetings and during scheduled seminars and colloquia. The postdoctoral associate is expected to write up and publish their results in high-impact journals, in coordination with the PI. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Modeling for Coastal-Urban Environments:

  • Configure urbanized WRF modeling in super-clusters and cloud-based environments
  • Identify areas of improvement for coastal-urban weather models to better represent urban physical processes
  • Assess the effectiveness of urban Boundary Layer representations of coastal-climate seasons under convective, neutral, and stable conditions
  • Develop and/or adapt data assimilation techniques from in-situ and satellite-based observations as potential model skills improvements

Design modeling experiments for model assessment and evaluation:

  • Identify specific data-driven events for model ensembles drawing from well-established networks such as NYS Mesonet and/or field campaigns in New York City, Houston, and other cities
  • Demonstrate and document model performance and skills based on the model ensembles

Contribute to operationalizing model execution for selected cities and explore applications:

  • For New York City and Houston, and other selected cities
  • Explore applications of urbanized NWP for air quality and buildings energy demand forecasting 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Conference and workshops participation, weekly group meetings, note-taking 


Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • PhD in a relevant field (Physics, Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences).
  • Experience with numerical weather prediction models and model ensemble
  • Excellent programming skills in various platforms and languages.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
