Job Description

The Syracuse-Wawasee Trail Committee is searching for an Director of the Syracuse Wawasee Trails who will assist in the continued development, administration and maintenance of a growing trail system in and around Syracuse, Indiana including the Lakes Wawasee area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties and responsibilities are normal for this position. These are not construed as exclusive or all-inclusive and other duties and responsibilities may be required or assigned.

• Research availability and apply for relevant trail grants
• Develop, implement and manage a day to day maintenance program for the trails including recruiting volunteers and hiring contractors
• Prepare mailings to solicit donations and promote trail activities
• Promote the trail system in creative ways, including the web and social media
• Meet and build relationships with local civic, government and non-profit organizations
• Develop and promote a Trail Builders membership group
• Work with engineers on the design and construction of future trail projects
• Meet with property owners or home owners associations to plan trail routes and negotiate easements
• Attend and present at monthly Trail Committee meetings
• Provide written and oral reports to the Trail Committee
• Organize trail rides/walks and promote trail usage
• Develop and organize events that will raise funds needed for day to day operations of the Trail system including salary of Director

Skills and experience needed

• Energetic person who is self-motivated and self-directed
• Passion for trails and outdoor recreation
• Ability to work with people
• Ability to speak to the public and build enthusiasm about trails
• Ability to write grant applications and newsletters
• Ability to manage complex projects and events
• Working knowledge of social media and word processing, spreadsheet and data base software
• Ability to use varied maintenance equipment such as rakes, shovels and other hand held tools (such as hammers, drills, weed eaters, hedge trimmers)
• Ability to work nights and weekends as needed

Education & Experience:

Preferred college course work and/or experience in parks, recreation, non-profit management, public administration, or related field

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $25,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year

Schedule:

• Weekend availability

Supplemental pay types:

• Bonus pay
