Postdoctoral Research Associate

Princeton University

Job Description

Postdoctoral Research Associate at Princeton University The origin of multicellularity The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Princeton University has a postdoctoral or more senior research position in theoretical biology working with Professor Corina Tarnita on projects exploring the origin of multicellularity and the organization of early/simple multicellular groups. We will take a bottom-up approach to the origin of multicellularity: we will focus on the paleoecology, biophysics, and development of the solitary ancestor and explore the possible emergent multicellular life cycles and the rudimentary self-organization of the simplest early groups, with a focus on group geometry and collective dynamics. The work will be primarily theoretical but there will be close collaboration with experimentalists. The researcher will be actively involved in determining and shaping the specific project(s) together with the PI, which could also involve teaching, advising and mentoring. We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented individual to join this effort. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. We are particularly interested in candidates with a strong quantitative training, computing skills, and a deep understanding of ecology and evolutionary biology. The appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a second year based on satisfactory performance. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience, and benefits are included. This position is available as early as September 1, 2023, and applications will be accepted until the position is filled. This position is subject to Princeton University's background-check policy. Applicants must apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/29761 and submit a curriculum vitae, a one-page statement of research interests, goals, and experience, and a cover letter that includes names and contact information of three referees. Princeton University is an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
