Position Summary

The New Mexico HPV Prevention Center is a complex clinical research center. The Center has been supported by industry, state and federal grant dollars. The Program Manager plays a key role in overseeing the daily administrative operations for the Center and core functions of the New Mexico HPV Pap Registry. Acting as the primary administrative point of contact for internal informatics, clinical, laboratory and administrative functions, the position is a central liaison for other UNM organizations. The position works directly with the Center Director, Faculty of the Center and the New Mexico HPV Pap Registry, Clinical Trials Operations Manager and staff to assist with the development and implementation of policies consistent with Center standard operating procedures ensuring efficient, productive and safe operations of public health reporting activities, and laboratory and clinical research. Specifically, regulatory compliance training and certification documentation, inventory management, specialized advanced record keeping, database management, and detailed computer application review is a large part of the job.  The Program Manager coordinates and facilitates program functions, as appropriate, interacting and work with internal laboratory staff, an in-house IT group, biostatisticians and manages and participates in internal and external clinical research to achieve the goals of the Center and the New Mexico HPV Pap Registry. The Program Manager will be responsible for supervising support staff and a student as needed including organizing, training, assigning and evaluating project completion. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills and will be able to adapt to changing priorities and provide support for a variety of research, administrative, clinical and computer efforts.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center is the Official Cancer Center of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. Its 146 board-certified oncology specialty physicians include cancer surgeons in every specialty (abdominal, thoracic, bone and soft tissue, neurosurgery, genitourinary, gynecology, and head and neck cancers), adult and pediatric hematologists/medical oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, and radiation oncologists. They, along with more than 600 other cancer healthcare professionals (nurses, pharmacists, nutritionists, navigators, psychologists and social workers), provide treatment to 65% of New Mexico’s cancer patients from all across the state and partner with community health systems statewide to provide cancer care closer to home. They treated 13,578 patients in 105,748 ambulatory clinic visits in addition to in-patient hospitalizations at UNM Hospital. A total of 1361 patients participated in cancer clinical trials, including 544 (40%) patients who participated in clinical trials testing new cancer treatments that include tests of novel cancer prevention strategies and cancer genome sequencing. The more than 102 cancer research scientists affiliated with the UNMCCC were awarded $36.2 million in federal and private grants and contracts for cancer research projects. Since 2015, they have published 930 manuscripts, and promoting economic development, they filed 136 new patents and launched 10 new biotechnology start-up companies. Finally, the physicians, scientists and staff have provided education and training experiences to more than 530 high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellowship students in cancer research and cancer health care delivery. Conditions of Employment
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; at least 6 years of experience 2 of which are management level experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

a.       Experience working in Banner

b.       Experience with Chrome River 

c.       Experience with Lobo Mart

d.       Experience managing budgets and grants. Experience with purchasing and payment processing

e.       Experience with Management teams including: Calendars, scheduling, taking meeting notes and special projects 

f.        Experience in the use of personal computers and related software applications - All MS Office Programs and Adobe Pro

g.       Experience working with database and records management

h.       Experience optimizing and improving work flows and team processes 

i.         Experience maintaining all project documents including confidential documentation

j.         Experience with clinical research processes, including recruitment, informed consent, and specimen handling, shipping and data collection

k.       Experience managing and supporting faculty and staff as well as outside collaborator compliance records to meet institutional, state and federal regulations particularly for public health and human research

l.         Experience in developing or working with comprehensive, organized tracking systems for management of large volume program projects.

m.     Experience working on large volume projects with a team of lab and clinical researchers delivering high quality data deliverable to external funding agencies.
