Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The postdoc position will be at the Institute for Transportation (InTrans).  InTrans serves as the focal point for transportation research and outreach at Iowa State University (ISU). InTrans is $16M per year hub for local, regional, and national transportation-focused research, education, and technology transfer. InTrans reports to the Vice President for Research (VPR) at Iowa State and works closely with the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) and other departments on campus.  InTrans has 34 affiliated faculty and 40 researchers.   

Position duties will include collecting traffic field data;  extracting and reducing data; cleaning and preparing data for analysis; conducting foundational statistical analyses; developing and administering online surveys; organizing stakeholder meetings; conducting literature reviews; writing reports to summarize data collection, analysis, and findings;  and other duties as assigned. 

The position is currently being filled for one year, with the potential to be extended beyond that. The position is to assist with applied research with practical applications, rather than basic research. Some travel may be expected within the role, as well.


Required Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in transportation engineering or related field  


Preferred Qualifications:

Foundational statistical background

Experience in traffic safety research or applications

Experience writing reports; experience with ARCGIS

Ability to appropriately document research activities so they can be reproduced by others.
