Job Description

Position Summary

Victoria College is recruiting for one full-time, tenure track Music Instructor position to head either the band or choral programs beginning in August 2023.  Candidates from either field are encouraged to apply.  The Band position includes conducting the concert band and other instrumental ensembles like jazz band.  The Choral position includes conducting the college choir and other vocal ensembles like Choraliers.  Either position would require teaching music major courses, such as Music Theory, Class Piano, and Sight Singing and Ear Training, as well as pirvate lessons.  Teaching core music courses (Music Appreciation, American Music, and Music Literature) are also a regular part of the teaching load.  Other duties include recruiting instrumental or vocal musicians, building the music program, and maintaining normal faculty duties.  Teaching assignments may include evenings and weekend classes.


Starting earned monthly salary for the nine-month position is $5,138.56. The earned annual
salary is paid out over 12 months.

Duties & Responsibilities

Regular faculty members help students achieve learning outcomes by teaching assigned classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies and participate in advising and committee assignments, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned.  
 

Qualifications

Required

  • A Master's degree in Music from an accredited institution with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in music
  • Doctorate preferred
  • Computer literacy
  • Commitment to teaching excellence
  • Excellent work ethic

Preferred

  • Experience forming community partnerships
  • Experience in assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Experience teaching students from a wide spectrum of ages and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, including high school students enrolled in dual credit classes
