The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Temporary Research Assistant Intern to work at UHealth. The Research Assistant Intern provides support in the performance of research related tasks for the assigned department(s) including data compilation, manipulation, and presentation. Additionally, the Research Assistant Intern leverages knowledge to perform complex duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological, and other research laboratory tests, experiments, and determinations.

  • Performs literature research.

  • Compiles reference and statistical data into standard formats.

  • Analyzes and presents data and information in written, oral or graphical forms.

  • Documents experiment results and draws tentative conclusions.

  • Prepares and conducts literature reviews on proposed topics.

  • Maintains accurate records of research protocols documentation.

  • Participates in the preparation of research papers and abstracts.

  • Coordinates database management.

  • Performs special projects and assignments in a timely fashion.

  • Will be expected to participate in the program Monday through Friday 40 hours per week, which includes classroom sessions, journal clubs, and laboratory work.  Classroom sessions will be 1-hour lectures provided twice weekly.  The lectures will be a combination of didactic learning and small group discussions.  Students will be evaluated on their participation. 

  • Will attend journal club once a week (1 hour) for the 10-week period, with the first week being an introductory week including assignment of teams presenting each week and selection/distribution of the first journal article.  Each student will present/discuss a journal article twice in the time frame in teams of 3-4 students. 

  • Will be for the students to spend in their designated laboratory working on his/her research topic.  They will learn and perform laboratory research skills pertinent to the laboratory in which they are placed.

  • At the end of the 10-week research program, students will be required to write a technical abstract of the research project and results as well as a lay summary version of their abstract.  Students will also create a poster of their research project and a brief PowerPoint presentation.  The final day of the 10-week program will host the “Summer Student Research Day”.  All students will attend/present their poster while faculty, students, post-doctoral fellows, and scientific staff circulate through the various posters.” 

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience

  • Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data.

  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
