Summary

The candidate will undertake an independent biomedical research project related to calreticulin interactions and cellular calcium signaling in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor, MI. The candidate will also provide lab administrative and technical support.

This is a term limited full-time position through March 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist with the design and execution of experiments, including acquiring knowledge of the related literature.
  • Analyses of results of experiments using customized software and common graphing and statistical software.
  • Discussions of experimental results. Presentations of research findings and journal articles at lab meetings, meetings with other research groups and poster sessions.
  • Preparation of manuscripts relating to research findings. 
  • Assistance with lab maintenance and the smooth functioning of the research laboratory.

Required Qualifications*

Senior level:

  • BS in biological sciences with 3+ years of related research experience.
  • Basic proficiency in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry are required and experience with immunology research is desirable.
  • Strong motivation for research, learning and engaging in the literature.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically and trouble-shoot effectively.
  • Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

Intermediate:

  • BS in biological sciences with 1 year research experience.
  • Basic proficiency in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry are required.
  • Strong motivation for research, learning and engaging in the literature.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to think critically and trouble-shoot effectively.
  • Willingness and ability to follow instructions, and work as part of a team.

Desired Qualifications*

Master’s degree in biological sciences or related degree

Additional Information

This is a 1-year term-limited appointment.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
