Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Under general supervision, the candidate must be able to work independently to develop and conduct regular financial aid training covering federal, state, and institutional aid eligibility and requirements. Conduct outreach activities representing the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) sharing UMD’s financial aid eligibility requirements, procedures and available financial aid options and advise students and families regarding financial aid and enrollment options at UMD. Manage, update and track UMD’s financial aid compliance requirements with Title IV, state, institutional aid and other applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Develop and update policies, procedures and guides regarding financial aid programs and processes. Work with the Director of Financial Aid and others in Enrollment Management (EM) to train staff, communicate and assist in implementing new financial aid requirements and update existing requirements if necessary. Work with OSFA and other staff to monitor, update and enhance the student service experience related to financial aid processes, communication and information. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in financial aid.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • The ability and knowledge to assist in multiple areas throughout the office. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks. 
  • Because of the nature of the data in relation to student’s academic record, attention to detail when developing and presenting training programs and materials is important.
  • The ability to work in and promote a team environment.
  • The ability to interpret and communicate information based on knowledge of federal, state and institutional policies, procedures, and departmental considerations.  

Preferences:

Preferences:
Knowledge of an automated data processing system and one year experience in customer service with customer service experience in a financial aid office preferred.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Some local and out-of-state travel is required to attend conferences and other outreach activities.
