Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The A. James Clark School of Engineering has the largest number of major gift donors at the University of Maryland, College Park campus. The Coordinator, Stewardship, reporting to the Associate Director, Donor Relations and Stewardship in the Office of External Relations, organizes and carries out the College’s efforts to effectively steward major gift and leadership level donors. The position works closely with College, campus, and team partners to recognize donors and convey the impact and importance of their gifts to the College and our students.

The Coordinator is highly skilled in designing and crafting written communication and meticulous in managing complex events and activities. The position develops and writes strategic briefings to prepare the Dean, Assistant Dean, and other university administrators at the highest levels, and composes bespoke and impactful acknowledgement letters to the Clark School’s most generous donors.

This position is responsible for planning, administering, managing, and executing critical donor relations events and activities including small corporate events, the College-wide Scholarship and Fellowship Luncheon [drawing more than 250 donors, all Dean’s Circle events for the College’s largest donors, the Clark Foundation Scholarship Day, and others as determined by the College and campus leadership. As the primary point person for these activities, the Coordinator oversees events on the day of, from welcoming guests, problem-solving, directing event set-up and take down, communicating with staff, organizing vendors, to event review and follow-up.

The Coordinator also works closely with campus and College partners to manage the integrity of the gift agreement and gift acceptance process. The position oversees the acknowledgement system for the Clark School to record and recognize each gift in a timely manner and ensure that funds are correctly allocated.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in administration, customer service, journalism, or marketing, or in a fundraising environment.
  • A Master’s degree may substitute for 1 year of experience.
  • Event management experience is also required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent written and grammatical skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to display tact and professionalism in all communications with university stakeholders.
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple assignments and deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while establishing and cultivating working relationships with internal and external customers in a courteous, efficient and professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment while operating in a flexible and professional manner; able to handle sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Possess enthusiasm and a positive approach to work, diplomatic in working with many different individuals with competing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and specifically including Excel, Powerpoint, etc.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Experience in a donor relations and/or higher education setting is highly desired.
  • Experience with a customer relationship management database.
  • Experience in a fast-paced professional office environment and/or administrative role preferred.

  • Mostly sedentary work performed in a normal office environment requiring the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

  • Position requires involvement in the set-up, break-down and staging at meetings and special events.
  • Some evening and weekend duties, as necessary.
