Montgomery College, Rockville, has an immediate need for a full-time Transition Program Coordinator position.  The work schedule is 40 hours per week: Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., which may include occasional evenings or weekends (flexible). This is a non-bargaining, exempt, grade 27 position. Montgomery College promotes and creates a working and learning environment rooted in the basic tenets of fairness, diversity, and inclusiveness. This position is eligible for telework up to 2 days per week after the successful completion of the initial employment probationary period.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Supervises monitors and evaluates the performance of 5+ College & Career Coaches part-time under the Adult ESOL and Basic Skills for College and Careers unit.

  • Recruit, train, and supervise College and Career Coach adjuncts who support students from program entry until successful completion of advanced-level course offerings that are looking to enter/reenter the workforce and/or continue their education beyond the ESOL and GED® preparation program.
  • Manage career lesson plans and instructional materials, explore and implement new initiatives, and analyze program data for program improvement.

Student Advising & Support

  • Advise students placing out of grant-funded programs on an individual basis and in small group settings about their postsecondary education and training options.
  • Follows up with students individually and in groups (e.g. via a cohort model) to assess needs for additional assistance and to provide information, referrals, and support as needed prior to and during the first transition year.
  • Designs and implements appropriate outreach strategies (e.g. classroom presentations) to identify and recruit eligible students from within Adult ESOL & Literacy Programs.

Partnerships

  • Establishes and maintains active partnerships and working relationships with college offices and services such as student aid, counseling, testing, disabilities support, and the Educational Opportunities Center. Establishes and maintains active partnerships and working relationships with area social service and employment agencies to assist students with the transition.

Acts as the dean's designee on the Behavioral Intervention BIT and for Student Code of Conduct cases. Evaluates the risk factors and work closely with the Dean to initiate the disciplinary or Behavioral Intervention Team process.

  • Receives disciplinary reports and reports of students of concern.
  • Acts as a resource for the WD&CE team; advises and coordinates between BIT cases and the Code of Conduct.
  • Tracks student BIT cases and provides follow-up to the BIT, the Dean of Adult Instruction, Campus Security, and other constituencies as appropriate. 
  • Administers and enforces the Student Code of Conduct in collaboration with the Dean of Adult Instruction.

Administrative?

  • Maintains student files and other tracking systems to document services provided and student outcomes.
  • Prepares and submits monthly activity and statistical reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of grant proposals for all unit programs.

Marketing/Promotion

  • Assists program coordinators and staff with the dissemination of marketing and or promotional materials related to AEBSCC programs and courses. Keeps college community, program faculty, students, and partners apprised of services through flyers, transition Facebook page, MC website, transition Symbaloo website, and various promotional events. 

Program Leadership & Support. The Adult ESOL and Basic Skills for College and Careers unit regularly seeks new grants and utilizes all staff in the start-up of related programming.  This position provides support to these projects as they may occur and as time is available.

  • Participates in program design and development.
  • Coordinates part-time instruction as needed.
  • Shares and coordinates program outreach, intake, and evaluation duties.  
  • Provides primary support linking students to additional services and preparing them for the workforce and further education. 
  • Tracks student achievements.
  • Completing funder-required reports.
  • Monitoring expenditures.
  • Meets regularly as a staff to provide guidance, troubleshooting, and updates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Student Advising/Guidance, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Three years of direct experience in guidance, student advising, and/or counseling and working with diverse populations, immigrant groups, and at-risk learners.
  • Two years of experience in an educational setting.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Education, Student Advising/Guidance, or a closely related field.
  • Three years of experience working with diverse populations, immigrant groups, and at-risk learners.

Salary Range: $61,529 to $79,977 (annually).  Initial salary placement is based on candidate experience and internal equity. Please include a complete resume including all relevant and related work experience.
