Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Data Analyst for the Department of Urban Global-Public Health (Gun Violence Research Center) within the School of Public Health. Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Gun Violence Research Center, the Senior Data Analyst provides data management and programming support to fulfill the needs of faculty and staff conducting qualitative and quantitative gun violence research.
The Gun Violence Research Center at Rutgers seeks to create safe and healthy environments for NJ residents to live, learn, work, and play by providing high-quality, multi-disciplinary research on firearm violence causality and prevention, and to translate this research into clear and actionable policies and programs. The Center partners with relevant local, state, and national-level experts, securing access to data to conduct and support research that identifies etiologic factors for firearm
violence, develops and rigorously evaluates interventions to reduce the burden of firearm violence, and translates its scientific findings into effective programs and policies to better ensure their widespread adoption.
This project partnership is supported by the New Jersey Office of the Secretary of Higher Education.
Among the key duties of this position are the following;
  • Supports data cleaning, management, and analyses for investigators conducting epidemiological and related research.
  • Generates preliminary analyses and power analyses for grant submissions, as directed by Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Writes statistical code, documents steps for variable creation and analysis, and prepares tables and figures for presentations, manuscripts, and grant submissions according to the analytical plan developed by the corresponding PI.
  • Assists with data design and analytic strategies for primary and secondary research projects, program evaluations, and implementation evaluations.
  • Develops and maintains databases, syntax, and data dictionaries for research projects.
  • Attends and contributes to study team meetings to provide updates on data-related tasks and flag issues with ongoing data collection or analysis.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field (Public Health, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Nursing, Social Work, Public Policy, Statistics, etc.)
  • One (1) year of relevant experience which may include conducting statistical analyses for research projects (focus groups, cohort studies, case-control studies, or manipulating large population-based datasets).
Certifications/Licenses
  • Must have valid driver’s license and vehicle as occasional travel within NJ may be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency and knowledge of at least one standard statistical software package, including SPSS, SAS, R, MPlus, or STATA.
  • Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.
  • Ability to inform and conduct experimental and quasi-experimental research designs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. Degree in a relevant field.
  • Proficiency conducting geospatial analyses and using mapping software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, etc.).
  • Experience conducting longitudinal analyses (e.g., panel, cohort, record linkage studies).
  • Experience writing grants for federal, state, and/or local agencies.
  • Demonstrated record of academic publishing and project involvement using advanced quantitative methods.

Immunization Requirements
