Lead Health Educator/ Project STOP

SUMMARY: To assist the Project Director and Health Educator staff in implementing Project STOP (Substance Use, Tobacco, Outreach, Prevention), a federal grant funded by the US Department of Health and Human Services Administration, SAMHSA, directed toward youth, 9-20 years old within the targeted areas of Miami-Dade County.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Educate children, youth, and young adults, ages 9 – 20, about healthy choices and decision making using evidence-based curriculums on substance use prevention, social- emotional growth and more
• Provide direct-service in schools within Miami-Dade County and at outreach sites on a daily basis. Manage a minimum of 10 Cohorts weekly, approx. 3-4 cohorts daily, which requires facilitation of 10 classes. Classes run approx. 45 minutes with 10-25 participants per class
• Maintain a flexible schedule in order to facilitate classes, to accommodate during school hours, and possible after school hours. May have multiple cohorts within the same school, or may have to drive to more than one location within the same day to facilitate classes
• Complete attendance, fidelity log, and progress notes for participants in each class daily
• Ensure proper planning and coordination of cohort start/end dates, including creating a schedule with partners for program implementation
• Train in evidence-based curricula Too Good for Drugs program and "VOICES: A program of self-discovery and empowerment for girls” (ages 12 – 19 years old)
• Implement the evidence-based curricula Positive Community Norms (PCN) campaign to educate the community with data and statistics of positive behaviors taking place within their community to spread awareness and create/promote healthy conversations in schools and within families
• Provide in-direct services and outreach, such as resource and information tables at community health fairs, educational and awareness presentations, and make presentations at schools to raise awareness and recruit partnerships for Project STOP
• Follow up with community partners and schools in establishing Memorandum of Understandings (MOU’s) for coordination of services
• Collaborate and network with program/community partners to implement social norms and environmental strategy campaigns at their respective sites
• Collect program evaluation measurements (i.e. pre-/post-surveys; opinions/perspectives) and enter data into SPSS platform at a minimum bi-weekly
• Provide verbal and written updates as well as reports to the Project Director on a weekly and monthly basis, depending on report type
• Responsible for all deadlines, reports and data entry related to the cohorts on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Maintain up to date information in shared Outlook calendar
• Attend mandatory weekly supervision and staff meetings in-person with the Project Director
• Gather, track, and safeguard confidential program information as necessary
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Project Director

SUPERVISION

Supervise a Health Educator, and meet with them on a weekly basis to review performance, productivity, data and provide guidance, coaching and/or support as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Health, Education, Humanities, or Social Studies, required; Master’s Degree, preferred
• Minimum four (4) years’ experience in health and prevention programs working with youth and young adults, required
• Minimum of four years’ experience of administrative support and compliance.
• Must have a car and a valid Florida Driver’s License with proof of insurance in accordance with agency requirements and have the ability to travel within Miami-Dade County as needed or necessary; (Mileage is reimbursed)
• Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
• Must have basic computer skills with some knowledge of MS Word & Excel
