The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute, a Department of Energy University Facility, is jointly supported by DOE and the State of Texas and is a major technical and educational resource for the state and the nation. At the Institute, we focus on conducting basic research, educating students in accelerator-based science and technology, and providing technical capabilities for a wide variety of applications in space science, materials science, analytical procedures and nuclear medicine. What We Want

The Assistant Research Scientist will be responsible for work on the STAR Experiment, a multi-institutional experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-lon Collider. The selected candidate will be responsible for data analysis on the STAR experiment, bringing results from ongoing and future physics analyses to publication, participating in the service tasks for TAMU membership in the STAR Collaboration, and mentoring students in the group. What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Appropriate PhD and relevant research experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with people from various backgrounds

Preferred Education and Experience: 

  • Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics

  • Experience in leadership positions in the STAR Collaboration

  • Experience as a postdoctoral research associate in data analysis related to jet reconstruction and photon identification in the STAR Experiment at the Relativistic Heavy-lon Collider

Responsibilities

  • Data Analysis: Writes analysis software. Analyzes the data and prepares physics results for publication.

  • Dissemination of Results: Writes manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and presents results at scientific conferences.

  • Mentoring: Helps mentor students (undergraduate and graduate students) in the group.

  • STAR Service Work: Participates in experimental shift-taking during data collection and services to collaboration for production of results, as well as performing other duties as assigned.
