The laboratory of Stefan Sarafianos invites applications for a non-tenure track appointment as an Assistant Professor or Instructor. We are seeking a scientist with expertise in Structural Biology, specifically Electron Microscopy to conduct and direct research on HIV-1, SARS-CoV-2, MPXV, and HBV. Additional background in biophysics, Biochemistry, Virology and Cell Biology would be a plus.


The Sarafianos lab is a component of the growing Center for ViroScience and Cure and the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology at Emory University’s Department of Pediatrics in Atlanta, GA.

 

Key responsibilities will include:
• HIV-1, HBV, SARS-CoV-2, and MPXV research and data analysis
• Preparation and submission of project proposals to secure additional research grant funding in collaboration with internal and/or external investigators
• Writing and review of scientific papers/abstracts; publication in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
• Supervision of a diverse staff
• Mentorship and training of undergraduate, graduate, and technical and doctoral scientists
• Data presentation at national and international meetings
• Establishment and maintenance of biosafety protocols
• Maintaining confidentiality and a high code of ethics
Eligible candidates will have:
• a Ph. D. in Structural Biology/Biophysics or Biochemistry with additional expertise in Virology, or Cell Biology.
• Productive postdoctoral training record
• Continuous record of publications, including in high impact journals.
• Experience in overseeing teams of researchers in an academic setup, and have strong background in structural biology, electron microscopy. Additional expertise in virological, cellular, molecular biology, biophysical, and biochemical techniques would be a plus.
• Submission of grants at NIH or other agencies
