The Opportunity

Experiential Learning (EL) is seeking to fill a 12?month, non?tenure earning instructional specialist position anticipated to begin no later than May 2023. EL’s mission is to enhance academic study and student competency development, promote regional economic vitality, and build ongoing partnerships with employers and the community. EL has been supported by UCF since the opening of the university in 1968. The department began as a small cooperative education program and over many years has become accredited and one of the largest and most diverse programs in the country. In 1995, the department began supporting internships as well and in 2003 added Service?Learning to create a comprehensive, centralized department to promote and facilitate quality experiential learning courses at UCF. 

Experiential Learning instructs and promotes applied learning courses, facilitates the development of quality experiential learning courses through collaboration and training for faculty campus wide, and partners with employers and community partners locally, nationally, and internationally to help them access talented students and assist in the educational process.  

Instructional specialists are responsible for multiple areas within the role: 
 

Students Services 

  • Document/track student and employer activity using computer?based systems.
  • Assist students with obtaining positions related to their major and/or career goals.

  • Provide student advising, assistance with targeted resume writing and interview skills to obtain a position.

  • Develop and conduct workshops, presentations, and other program related events. 

Student Course Facilitation 

  • Register, monitor, guide, and grade student assignments and attainment of learning objectives in appropriate EL courses.

  • Contribute to course curriculum and program development as appropriate. 

Academic Services 

  • Collaborate with discipline faculty and academic advisors to verify academic program requirements.

  • Provide support, resources, and recommendations to departments for developing and enhancing internship programs.

  • Connect UCF academic departments and community organizations to develop experiential learning partnerships. 

Employer Relations 

  • Develop experience?based educational opportunities with employers.

  • Document/track employer activity using computer?based systems.

  • Consult business partners seeking student talent and alternative funding sources.

  • Present to agencies and employers seeking to connect with EL/UCF in various capacities.  


On Campus Outreach 

  • Participate on grant writing teams or special projects where experiential learning activities are a component of the proposal or activity.

  • Compile assessments on special programs and issue recommendations for program improvement.

  • Connect UCF academic departments and community organizations to develop experiential learning partnerships. 

  • Develop internship opportunities within the UCF community.

  • Market and promote the program to all constituents.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization with a minimum of two years of working related experience in experiential learning. Must have been faculty (adjunct, interim, or full-time) at a higher education institution previously.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer direct experience with the following: 

  • Planning, development, implementation, and teaching of cooperative education and/or internship programs/courses at university level.

  • Experience developing partnerships and educational positions with employers, as well as with community partners.

  • Experience developing and maintaining relationships with faculty, staff and other constituents.

  • Experience completing duties through collaboration and with minimal directions, being resourceful, partnership minded, and flexible with strong follow up and communication skills.

  • High volume and fast?paced environment.
