Job Summary: Under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee, The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the Ph.D. or other doctoral degree.


Additional Department Summary: The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Alabama is seeking candidates for a Postdoctoral position. This position is available to individuals with research interests in edge computing, design of microcontroller-based hardware and software for wearable devices, and applications of machine learning and artificial intelligence to wearable sensor data.

The candidate should have good oral and written English communication skills, be capable of independent work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team, publish results in academic journals and participate in grant proposal preparation. Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Electrical, Computer or Biomedical Engineering or a related field. The initial appointment is for a period of one year with potential for further extension. The review of applications will start immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

This Post-Doc position will be expected to conduct research under the supervision of Dr. Edward Sazonov.


Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or other terminal degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or a closely related field.

Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment. Skills and Knowledge: Extensive practical experience and strong foundation in hardware and software design for microcontrollers (STM32 or MSP430 preferred). Experience with machine learning and deep learning (Python, TensorFlow or Pytorch). Familiarity with regression analysis and statistical techniques. Familiarity with biomedical signals and signal processing.


Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability in technical writing and lab management.
