Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Senior Coordinator of Student Transition will provide individual assistance within the enrollment and the transition to college to first-year UMD students through communication and interaction with campus constituents tasked with provision of service to entering students (e.g. orientation, resident life, office of student financial aid, advising offices, academic departments, Academic Achievement Programs, OMSE, the health center, etc.).

The Senior Coordinator will primarily provide support and guidance to enrolling students from areas in the Maryland state with low college going populations who are not familiar with the college experience and who may be intimidated by the size, complexity, and unfamiliarity of UMD. This will be accomplished through the provision of problem resolution, identification of resources, and personalized connection to support services and appropriate campus personnel. Initially this focus will be in Baltimore City and Prince Georges County.

With the ultimate goal of assisting students in their transition to UMD, the Senior Coordinator will support recruitment, outreach, and yield efforts in designated in-state territories in order to establish, maintain, and support relationships between prospective students and parents, and the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years experience required in college or university admissions, multicultural affairs, academic advising or a related field, as well as demonstrated experience working with students and families from backgrounds that are underrepresented in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ideal candidates will demonstrate a positive attitude, excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills; a strong sense of initiative and self-direction; an ability to interact positively and professionally with students, parents, and alumni, and successfully work in a high volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must also be available to travel, and to work evenings and weekends at various times during the year.
  • Must possess high energy, self-motivation, initiative, creativity, strong time management sills, a positive attitude and resourcefulness.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Physical Demands

Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Must have the ability to lift and small carry parcels, packages and other items, to walk short distances, and drive a vehicle for office related travel and to deliver and pick up materials.
