Position Highlights

The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the Research Manager Position, The Research Manager will manage a team of research laboratory personnel, including research staff, student workers, graduate assistants, and postdoctoral research associates. The other primary purpose of the position is to conduct psychology research data collection for an NIH-funded R01 nationwide clinical trial. The research topic is service dogs for military veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their families. This position will facilitate, implement, perform and oversee a wide variety of psychology research activities. The role will involve developing, adapting, and managing research protocols. Data collection will be conducted remotely, so it will consist of telephone calls, video calls, emails, mailing, and text messages. On-site work is required to compile study packages to send, receive and process samples, and maintain the laboratory environment. The position will be part of an inclusive team environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Personnel Management

  • Manage a team of research laboratory personnel, including research staff, student workers, graduate assistants, and postdoctoral research associates
  • Plan and direct the day-to-day work of team members to achieve research goals, including participant communication, data processing, data entry, and logistics of the studies 
  • Recruit, hire, train, and onboard new research staff, including communicating about expectations for the research role, monitoring performance in daily tasks and ongoing milestones, and evaluating performance over time
  • Manage personnel compliance with regulatory and research standards (e.g., IRB, IACUC) and clinical trial protocols
  • Set goals and objectives for research team members to maximize research efficiency and effectiveness

Data Collection

  • Conduct research for NIH-funded stream of research, including a national randomized clinical trial on service dogs and PTSD
  • Oversee and implement research protocols with national sample of participants 
  • Conduct telephone calls with research participants to: invite them to participate, build rapport and relationships, provide advice/guidance in study tasks, schedule assessments, troubleshoot, and be a primary point of contact 
  • Communicate with participants in an inclusive, respectful, friendly, and professional manner 
  • Prepare study materials for research and process received study materials 
  • Direct, instruct, and check other laboratory personnel to conduct data collection, including quality control to ensure high quality interactions with research participants and protocol compliance 
  • Communicate and collaborate with key stakeholders including service dog provider organizations

Protocol Development & Laboratory Management

  • Develop and adapt research protocols to be implemented by the data collection and research team 
  • Review effectiveness of current practices and develop updated and improved processes
  • Organize and coordinate laboratory space, including the physical environment and digital filing systems
  • Monitor and enhance the research workflow to ensure efficiency and meeting milestones and timeline targets
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory protocols and confidentiality of participant data 
  • Other duties as assigned

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Compile data status reports for key stakeholders, including funders and regulatory groups (e.g., Data Safety and Monitoring Board) 
  • Oversee data quality control 
  • Create graphs and presentations of data

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and team skills (in person, writing, and telephone) 
  • Knowledge of project management
  • Ability to implement project management skills
  • Excellent time management skills 
  • Willingness to be flexible in daily tasks (integrate multiple tasks into workday)
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience required

  • Experience with REDCap
