Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Center for Evidence-Based Behavioral Health

George Mason University’s new Center for Evidence-Based Behavioral Health (CEBBH), invites applications for a full time,12-month, Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Directed by Dr. Christy Esposito-Smythers, the CEBBH has a dual mission of 1) supporting research to develop, test, disseminate, and implement culturally responsive evidence-based behavioral health interventions in community settings; and 2) increasing access to high quality clinical care by directly training community-based clinicians and clinical supervisors in culturally responsive evidence-based interventions and assessment practices using principles of implementation science.
About the Position:
Dr. Esposito-Smythers will work with the successful applicant to manage a new SAMHSA-funded project conducted in collaboration with community mental health centers (Community Service Boards; CSBs) across Northern Virginia, who serve the uninsured, under-insured, and Medicaid-funded population. This project will use a mixed methods design to tailor and implement measurement-based care within the CSBs. Opportunities may also exist to conduct training and consultation in evidence-based behavioral health interventions for community-based clinicians and clinical supervisors. Interested applicants may also have the opportunity to accrue supervised clinical hours toward licensure.
In collaboration with Dr. Esposito-Smythers and other faculty, the successful applicant will oversee and participate in the daily activities associated with the implementation of measurement-based care, including close consultation with and qualitative interviewing of community stakeholders, implementation of a measurement feedback system, and additional research activity (e.g., supervision of graduate research assistants, implementation of program evaluation, IRB protocol management, data analysis, and dissemination of findings to community stakeholders, and preparation of peer-reviewed publications and presentations). The applicant should demonstrate experience with and interest in evidence-based assessment/intervention and youth mental health, as well as a commitment to culturally responsive care. In a continuing effort to enrich GMU’s academic environment and provide equal educational and employment opportunities, we strongly encourage applications from members of all groups underrepresented in higher education.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will also benefit from engagement with multiple faculty associated with the Center for Evidence-Based Behavioral Health (CEBBH), which brings together a number of faculty in clinical psychology and other units who are focused on dissemination and implementation of culturally responsive evidence-based practices. CEBBH capitalizes on several years of close, collaborative work among faculty and community partners. With over 1,000 clinicians trained in evidence-based practices, multiple new grants supporting such work, and new college-supported infrastructure and space, CEBBH offers opportunities for engagement in and mentorship for research, training, supervision, community engagement, and administration.
Required Qualifications:

Individuals should have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology or a related field, and a strong interest in implementation science, mental health equity, and dissemination of evidence-based practices. Experience conducting evidence-based behavioral health interventions with youth and families is strongly preferred.
Appointments will be made for one year, with the possibility of reappointment based on performance and funding. Start date is flexible, ranging from summer to early fall. Those interested in applying may direct questions to Christy Esposito-Smythers, Ph.D. (cesposi1@gmu.edu ).
