Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The mission of the School of Social Work is to advance equity, transform systems, improve lives. Position Summary | This Postdoctoral Fellow position offers an exciting opportunity to be engaged in global health services research, more specifically, the position will be involved with implementing and managing an NICHD-funded clinical trial focusing on adolescent health in Tanzania (the VITAA study). The postdoctoral fellow will gain experience in supporting a clinical trial with implementation science components and be engaged in substantive behavioral science research topics including adolescent mental health, HIV prevention, contraception, culture of health, resilience, and access to healthcare in low resource settings. The Fellow will participate in the implementation of intervention outcome research, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, manuscript preparation, and stakeholder engagement/dissemination activities. Under this postdoctoral fellowship, the successful candidate will be provided with a supportive, multidisciplinary environment in which they can contribute to successfully achieving the goals of the project. Additionally, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop skills in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, implementation science, and program evaluation. Besides Dr. Joy Noel Baumgartner, the candidate may work with other faculty, staff, and students in the School of Social Work, Gillings School of Public Health, with other our university partners and collaborators in Tanzania and the U.S. as deemed necessary in the course of the project. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | A PhD in a field relevant to health services research and/or behavioral science (e.g., epidemiology, social work, health behavior, health services, psychology, sociology, etc.) |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | * Advanced quantitative analysis skills [using R and/or STATA ] * Strong publication record or indication of potential to publish * Ability to work independently and collaboratively with internal and external partners |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | * Research experience in HIV prevention, mental health and/or adolescent health * Experience collaborating with research teams in low- and middle-income countries * Strong qualitative analysis skills or willingness to learn [e.g. Dedoose] |
