Summary

As a Lead Talent Acquisition Specialist, you will help develop and implement strategies, tools and resources to support inclusive, skills-based recruiting across the Ann Arbor campus. In addition to building a centralized recruiting function, your work will be to support teams with full-cycle recruiting for higher level roles and coach other recruiters in their work. You will use your leadership and systemic thinking skills - both important to ensure effective outcomes.

Project work may include building standards and procedures, implementing resources for hiring managers and upskilling stakeholders. Metrics and outcomes are important for this work. Full-cycle recruiting support will focus on using inclusive recruiting practices and mitigating bias with teams across the institution. You will report to the Director of Talent Acquisition within the central HR department at U of M and use your leadership skills to coach team members and hiring teams.

Responsibilities*

  • Support full-cycle recruiting for up to 10 open requisitions at once; support higher-level requisitions (director+) and work with a variety of hiring managers to match needs with prospective candidates
  • Ensure bias mitigation strategies are woven through each step from job creation to onboarding; conduct bias checking at each stage and within team discussions/actions
  • Lead change management across a complex, decentralized organization; ensure inclusive, skills-based hiring practices are infused in all recruiting efforts
  • Present training and development opportunities to a variety of stakeholders on recruiting best practices and how to support change at department level
  • Consult with campus departments on recruiting pain points; identify and implement recruiting-related solutions to decrease first year turnover and increase time to proficiency
  • Build relationships with hiring teams by providing tools and training that have the following outcomes: decrease time to hire, increase diversity of applicant pools, increase hiring team/candidate satisfaction and ensure quality of hire
  • Provide functional guidance to other talent acquisition professionals
  • Help develop a centralized recruiting function by defining our ideal future state policies, standards, procedures for mitigating bias and implementing well-informed practices
  • Champion candidate experience at each step in the process
  • Use your strategic and operational skill set to implement solutions with a systemic view

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience
  • 6+ years working in a formal talent acquisition role (and as your core function) providing full-cycle recruiting for a variety of position types and levels
  • 2+ years coaching and mentoring other experienced recruiters in recruiting best practices (formal supervision not required)
  • Applied experience with a variety of recruiting technologies
  • Expertise in behavioral interviewing and coaching hiring managers
  • Advanced proficiency using and guiding hiring teams on inclusive HR practices and mitigating bias
  • Experience participating in human resources-related projects in a complex organization, using project and change management principles
  • Knowledge of a variety of HR analytics
