Job Description

Summary

 A research assistant is sought for support on a research project with Dr. Kurt D. Hankenson. The pay rate will be determined based on the candidate’s background and experience. This is a term position. The expected duration of this position is 18 months. 

Responsibilities*

The research assistant will work closely with the faculty member and his team to manage rodent surgeries, and analysis by histological, molecular, and  Micro-Computed Tomography (Micro-CT) analysis examining the role of various mediators of fracture healing and bone regeneration.

Required Qualifications*

  • Post-bachelor graduate student 
  • Self-motivation and willingness to learn new applications and the ability to work independently 
  • Good communication skills 
  • Good organizational and documentation skills for keeping track of data and multiple analysis steps 
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques including isolation of RNA and DNA and assessment of gene expression using quantitative PCR.
  • Experience with animal surgery, dissections and tissue harvests
  • Experience with histological analysis
  • Demonstrable experience with MicroCT and NanoCT analysis 
  • Demonstrable experience in analysis of bone fractures 
  • Proficiency in Dragonfly imaging software and Prism-GraphPad statistical analysis software 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
