We are seeking a creative IT professional to help us support computing facilities that are instrumental to significant Department of Defense projects. We take great pride in contributing our hardware and software support to projects that help protect the nation. You will actively assist with our IT support efforts, including configuring, installing, uninstalling and maintaining systems used in laboratory environments and field tests. We are a hardworking team of systems administrators and information security experts, who love working collaboratively to solve complex computing challenges. As a Linux Vulnerability and Patching Specialist...
Your main responsibility will be to work with both the Linux System Administrator Team and the Vulnerability Assessment team to perform credentialed security scans on multiple classified Information Systems and assist both teams with developing and executing patching strategies and process. These strategies will need to work within general Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements as well as individual Information System Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

... identify new hardware needs and software needs to provide recommendations to the Linux and Vulnerability teams for procurement of new scanning technology.
… collaborate with security teams and management, both in the group and upstream security providers, to keep everyone informed and cognizant of vulnerability statuses and changes.
... collaborate with Windows, Storage, Network, and Virtualization System Administrators and Information System Security Officers and advise on a range of diverse projects being implemented on small, medium, and large disconnected networks.
... assist with the deployment and implementation of security and scanning tools like Nessus.
... adhere to documented procedures and create new documentation as needed for items like Plan of Action and Milestones, SOPs.
... participate in APL-wide collaboration sessions and teams on establishing common practices and procedures.
… stay informed of current and vendor bulletins vulnerability notifications.


Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have...

  • familiarity with current enterprise Linux distros like Red Hat, Ubuntu, and CentOS
  • experience scanning and remediating vulnerabilities in Linux operating systems and applications
  • experience securing systems to DoD standards
  • experience with Apache, MySQL
  • experience with authentication and interoperability between Windows and Linux .
  • a basic understanding of dhcp, dns, ip subnetting
  • basic Windows troubleshooting skills and familiarity of active directory
  • the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems related to OS, hardware, network, and related software
  • a current DoD 8570 certification (Security+ or CISSP)
  • a Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of relevant professional experience
  • Hold a Secret level security clearance and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you have...

  • an active Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance
  • Experience patching and remediating Linux operating systems in enterprise and development environments.
  • Experience working with configuration management tools (puppet, ansible, chef)
  • Experience with HPC Clusters
  • Experience with cfengine policies (writing, modifying, etc.)
