The Career Development Center provides programs and services that facilitate career development and job placement among NC State University students. The Career Development Center prepares and empowers students to identify and pursue their career goals.

Essential Job Duties

“OnePack Empowered” is a new University initiative that supports and empowers students with executive functioning challenges. This program will focus strategically on 1:1 mentoring with individual support plans to offer specialized assistance, bolster academic and personal success, support degree attainment, and a smooth transition out of college.

The Program Manager will oversee the development and implementation of the program.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide developmental, academic, and career advising, executive function coaching, and regular academic support to program participants to facilitate the transitions of postsecondary education
  • Support student progress in identifying strengths and challenges, self-advocating, setting short-term and long-term goals, formulating study skills and strategies
  • Develop and oversee an application process for participant selection
  • Plan, develop, and administer individual and group meetings with students
  • Hire, train, and supervise student mentors
  • Collaborate with campus partners to connect program participants to services and advocate for neurodiversity support
  • Provide training and professional development to students, faculty, staff, and employers
  • Work with employers to provide internship and career opportunities for neurodiverse students
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the program through an assessment plan, subsequently making program decisions based on demonstrated outcomes

Minimum Education and Experience

A Master’s degree in psychology, education or a related field, with a focus on secondary or higher education, special education, and/or learning disabilities, ASD, ADHD, or related cognitive differences or a bachelor’s degree in a related field plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of the unique strengths associated with neurodiversity
  • Demonstrated awareness of the importance to promote neurodiversity acceptance
  • Understand the need to include neurodivergent students in program planning
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, proofreading skills, and speaking
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with high professionalism
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of campus departments and stakeholders external to the university, including promoting neurodiversity acceptance
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and proficiency/comfort working with online communication tools
  • Maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of experience working with students as an advisor, coach, or academic support provider at the college level is preferred
  • Have a strong understanding of learning differences and a comprehensive knowledge of the challenges of working with students with learning differences
  • Be familiar with formal approaches such as life coaching, mentoring, motivational interviewing, or appreciative inquiry
  • Understand FERPA, ADA law, and other laws/regulations that pertain to working with college students.
