Summary
We are looking for an Accounting Clerk Senior to be a member of our Business Operations team to perform a broad range of accounting and payroll functions. This includes general accounting, payroll, reviewing transactions, timesheet reviewing/corrections, and other responsibilities, along with ensuring processes are followed and procedures are kept up to date. You will report to the Assistant Director for Financial Operations as part of our Business Operations team.

Responsibilities*
- Maintain general accounting and payroll activity.
- Review transactions for correct classification and appropriateness of expenditures
- Initiate and process journal entries
- Help with the payroll, audit, and verification process
- Help the team coordinate account activities
- Answer questions and solve account problems dealing with account status.
- Control account balances and reconcile differences
- Review monthly account statements and reports to verify policy compliance.
- Contact faculty, staff, students and others to resolve accounting and payroll issues.
- Support the year-end closing of accounts and the preparation of financial and payroll reports.
- Review and approve expenditures such as P-Card transactions, purchase and reimbursement requests, Purchase Order requests, etc., within prescribed limits according to Uniform Guidance and University policies
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Required Qualifications*
- High school education or equivalent and an understanding of bookkeeping and accounting principles.
- Ability to process financial transactions in an analytical and accurate manner
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, and in a team environment while providing excellent customer service
- Proficient standard office computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google)
Desired Qualifications*
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree and 1 or more years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience maintaining information in databases
- Familiarity with administrative processes, procedures, and systems at the University of Michigan or in a higher education setting
Work Locations
This position has flexible scheduling options with work being done both in the office and remotely. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance from Ann Arbor.
