Research Scientist

Job Description

RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Nuclear Science and Engineering-Center for Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems (CANES), to conduct experimental research in the area of nuclear system technology. Will perform assessment of advanced technologies with a specific focus in thermal-hydraulics; lead and creatively contribute to research projects; perform research projects with faculty, students, and researchers across MIT; prepare research journal articles and reports; oversee graduate and undergraduate research assistants and postdocs; represent the NSE/CANES labs with the MIT Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) office; and perform other related duties as required, including work performed at lower levels, when necessary.  May also teach courses in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline such as mechanical engineering, physics, materials science, or nuclear engineering; and at least two years of experience in a related field.   PREFERRED: experience designing, constructing, and operating complex experimental facilities, including state-of-the-art diagnostics; experience with data acquisition techniques; ability to communicate research results in the form of juried research journal articles or other similar forms of communication; experience writing grants; and the ability to manage research projects.  Job #22498

The initial appointment is for thirty-six months with the possibility of renewal based upon performance and the availability of funding.
