The specialist will work in collaboration with the ND Supplier Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee.  (Community Relations – Public Affairs – Economic Development – Procurement Services – Human Resources – DEI), to analyze, develop, and implement the ESI Recommendation, which includes the following goal:
1. EARLY WINS: Identify 2-3 specific spending categories to pursue diverse suppliers 
2. INSTITUTION-WIDE BUY-IN Securing commitment from top leadership and throughout the University 
3. DEPARTMENTAL FOCUS Orient internal functions to achieve a focused increase in supplier diversity 
4. EVENT Use a dedicated gathering to create interest, cultivate relationships, and provide assistance 
5. CAMPAIGN Sustain an internal and external campaign to build momentum for future efforts 

This position will evaluate potential categories on an ongoing basis with the Sourcing Team and based on the University’s needs. These tasks will adapt to the University’s priorities and OKRs
Maintaining the leadership involvement in the progress of the efforts to increase small businesses and diverse suppliers.  Develop strategic communications on behalf of Senior Leadership to share the success stories of the program.  
Collaborate with various business functions across the University to identify and include Minority Businesses for opportunities to support proposals and program requirements.
Outreach to suppliers and organizations that are working toward this same goal.  Participate in meetings with other institutions to develop strategies and work to create an inclusive environment that will support and develop diverse suppliers to be ready to do business with the University.
Create, Develop, and Communicate minority and diversity requirements, programs, policies, and systems through various communications, presentations, expos, and events.

* Evaluate availability by categories in our area to identify the best sourcing event to pursue 
* Work with the Sourcing team to identify categories and the next sourcing opportunities
* Reach out to diverse suppliers and explain to them the benefits of bidding on ND projects
* Encourage participation
* Update on senior leaders on the approach to increasing diverse suppliers
* Quarterly meeting – Update and progress with the efforts
* Identify key stakeholders to be part of the sponsor leaders that will support the efforts
* Resource available to achieve the University and Board of Trustees’ goals of increasing diverse suppliers 
* Work with different departments and identify the next bidding projects
* Research with those departments potential diverse suppliers to participate in those events
* Collaborate with areas from those departments in giving opportunities to the diverse supplier to compete in those events     
* Collaborate with the Supplier DEI committee the first ND Supplier Diversity and Inclusion event on campus – Educate, Develop, and Prepare future companies – Partnership with South Bend/Elkhart Regional partnership and others to facilitate the event.
* Anchor Institutions – participate with other institutions in the Michiana area to promote supplier diversity efforts.
* Participate in events across the region to educate diverse suppliers on how to do business with the University.
* Join the Indiana Educational Institutions Diversity Vendor Chat to share ND efforts and educate potential suppliers that want to do business with the University
* Use ND Works, WeeklyND, and other forms of communication to educate campus on these efforts
* Introduce in the Town Hall meetings the new Supplier DEI Specialist
* Presentation to campus leaders explaining the benefits of increasing diverse suppliers. 
* Awards – Recognizing those diverse suppliers that have done a great job in supporting the university
* Supplier Expo – Exclusively to promote diverse suppliers
* Constructions – Prime Suppliers Expo to connect diverse suppliers to be part of their Subcontracting workforce
* Participate in the Indiana Black Expo to promote working with the University

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (4 years)
  • 1 to 2 years
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, or related field.
  • Supply Chain, Strategic Sourcing, Purchasing, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion related to Supplier Diversity. Purchasing, Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, and supplier relationship experience with exposure to e-procurement and e-sourcing systems. Experience in coordinating multiple projects, excellent Microsoft Office skills. Excellent writing, speaking, analytical, and planning skills. High Customer Service ability, problem solving and attention to detail. Appropriate industry knowledge in assigned commodity area.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPSM, CPM or CPPB certification preferred.
