Job Description

General Description of Position:
Adjunct Faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions hired each semester on an as-needed basis. The adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School.

 

Major Responsibilities:

PROGRAM OPERATION: Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes. Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements. Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook. Submits requested information within established timelines. STUDENTS: Is available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions/provide assistance. Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues. INSTRUCTION: Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s). Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate. In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair. Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views. Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction, faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 as applicable to the specific area of instruction.

A qualified faculty member in chemistry is one who has an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in chemistry, or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in chemistry-related courses with an emphasis on organic chemistry teaching.

A qualified faculty member in physics is one who has an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in physics, or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in physics-related courses.

A qualified member in physical science is one who has an earned master's or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with 18 graduate semester hours in the physical sciences.

Faculty with extensive graduate credits, but no graduate degree, can be determined to have met the requirement if the individual is ABD (All but Dissertation) or has amassed 45 graduate hour credits in a single program that meets the requirements specific to the course being taught.

Faculty with a master's degree in secondary education with a relevant concentration (such as mathematics) can be determined to have met the requirement if the individual has 12 graduate credits in the field and 12 undergraduate credits in the field at the 300 and 400 level. This applies to general education courses that are 100 level only.

In addition to the Lafayette campus, positions may also be available in Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Monticello, and Morocco. Please state the location (s) you are interested in teaching at in your cover letter.
