Position Focus:

The Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics and the Center for Algorithms, Data, and Market Design at Yale (CADMY), are seeking a Program Administrator to manage and coordinate the programmatic activities of both the Cowles Foundation and the CADMY Center.  The Cowles Foundation for Research in Economics has as its purpose the conduct and encouragement of research in economics. The Cowles Foundation provides financial support for research, visiting faculty, postdoctoral fellowships, workshops, conferences and graduate students.  The newly established CADMY Center will bring together research, students and teaching in market design, algorithms and machine learning/optimization while providing vision and direction to develop, implement and evaluate effective programs and partnerships that impact all areas of business operations at CADMY by enhancing its presence within and outside the university. 

Reporting to the Administrative Director of the Cowles Foundation, the Program Administrator will work closely with the Cowles Event and Visitor Coordinator to plan and administer the Cowles Visitor and Postdoctoral Programs and the annual Cowles conferences.  This position will also work directly with the Director of the CADMY Center to plan, implement and coordinate programmatic initiatives at CADMY (e.g. training opportunities, retreats, symposia, conferences, fundraising events, academic programs, evaluation of funding sources) while aligning those initiatives with the missions of the institute and the broader University.

Essential Duties

1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities. 2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures. 3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. 6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. 7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. 8. Develops and manages the program's operating budget. 9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proven proficiency in executing on multiple and overlapping projects, working with administrators, faculty and other stakeholders. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and thorough. Demonstrated ability to problem solve and work independently with little supervision.


Required Skill/Ability 2:

Ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines and resolve complex issues using good judgement. Ability to work under pressure and with interruptions. Demonstrated reliability and dependability.


Required Skill/Ability 3:

Excellent interpersonal and well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively present to and work with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, visitors and colleagues both within the university and outside.  


Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to interact personably and professionally with colleagues, faculty, students, visitors and staff. Flexibility and ability to work as a team player. Demonstrated customer-service orientation in an academic or similar environment.


Required Skill/Ability 5:

Prepare and format reports and presentation material. Proficiency with Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), calendaring software (e.g. Outlook), and file sharing (e.g. Box, Dropbox, Google Drive). Ability to adopt new applications for managing specific workflows, some specific to Yale systems.


Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Demonstrated proficiency in both the financial and academic use of the Workday system. Experience working in a complex, fast-paced organization, with multiple stakeholder groups.
